If you are struggling for something to do this weekend and are living in Edinburgh, then look no further! Film in the City kicks off in St Andrews square this evening at 5.30pm showing Gregory’s Girl on the big screen, the first of many fabulous films to be shown over the course of the weekend.
Film in the City is part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which runs from 18th-29th June in and around Edinburgh. For those of you not familiar with the festival, the EIFF is renowned around the world for promoting the very best international cinema. It was established in 1957 and has premiered some of most exciting innovative films in the world, some you might recognise include: Brave, Let The Right One In, Knocked Up, Little Miss Sunshine, and one of my personal favourites, Billy Elliot.
So now we know a little bit more about EIFF, let’s get back to this weekend and the brilliant Film In The City. St Andrews Square is slap bang in the centre of Edinburgh and I couldn’t think of a better place to chill out and watch a movie in the sun… hopefully (might be best to bring a brolly just in case). Showing this weekend is a wonderful mix of Scottish Cinema classics like Local hero and Gregory’s girl, big blockbusters such as Top Gun (need I say more), something for the kids like How to Train Your Dragon and iconic horror Jaws, I think we’re gonna need a bigger boat!
If none of those tickle your fancy there are plenty more showing with screenings from 11.30am each day, view the full schedule here.
If you head down to St Andrews square this weekend not only will you be treated to some movie sensations but you will also receive a special treat from all of us at Macintyres of Edinburgh. We’ve put together a special promotion especially for Edinburgh Film Festival Fans, you can view a sneak peek of stills from the advert below narrated by one of our favourite stars… yeah baby! (You’ll have to head down to the festival to see the full version!)
So make sure to pop into Macintyres of Edinburgh this weekend (between showings of course) and claim your gift, why not treat yourself to something pretty while you are there too? You can have a browse of our online shop here.
